I have quickbooks 2010 and window 10. I tried to reinstall the xps writer according to your instructions numerous times. First of all, QuickBooks pdf writer is there too. I tried deleting that to get it to use XPS writer and then tried with pdf writer there also. It doesn't work. Error message is 'Printer not activated error code -20' and then 'Could not print to printer. Printer may have been cancelled from another program.' I saw your fix on another forum too, but maybe the quickbooks 2010 and windows 10 combination has other problems. PDF worked fine until windows 10.
The solution I wrote about was written for Quickbooks 2012. Quickbooks 2010 is a whole different story, it doesn't use the XPS printer for PDF printing (This started with Quickbooks 2011) it has a separate PDF printer from a company called Amyuni.

Having said that, Windows 10 is designed with many Power packed features. The application that can run on Windows 10 depends on it compatibility with Windows 10 platform. If you had an executable file for that particular software, then you can try installing it in Compatibly Mode. But we can't assure you the working status of that software with Windows 10. If you had files in a Compact Disc, then use some other PC connected with DVD/CD drive to copy them to USB stick and use it to install on desired PC.
Compatibility mode runs the program using settings from a previous version of Windows. Follow these steps to install the software in compatibility mode and check if that helps.
a. Right-click on the executable or setup file and click on ‘Properties’.
b. Go to ‘Compatibility’ tab and click Run compatibility troubleshooter, then select Try recommended setting and click Next again Next. Now it will ask you to Test the program, click on it and continue with installation. Once this is done, check if everything works fine. If it does, go back to Test the program window and click Next, then save the setup file with that settings. Reboot your PC and see it resolve the issue.
