Please help! My Poulan 2000 chainsaw has problems. As usual, it started (without me pressing the trigger as directed) and idled but when I try to rev up it dies. Then it won't restart. I notice a strong smell of fuel even though I still am not pressing trigger at all. It seems like it floods itself. I turn it to the side, fuel leaks from the muffler. After more tries to start, the cord breaks, I lose my temper and throw it about 30 feet. It just happened to land on a pile of leaves undamaged. I rarely get this angry. Thanks! |

Sounds as the a the other fellows said, you have poulanitis. The fuel lines probably have broken and need to be replaced, if it ha a primer on it, the primer has a habit of cracking also. replace both and it sounds as though you should be in good shape. | [Log in to Reply][No Email] |

Bad fuel lines. The stuff Poulan uses is a yellowish tygon tubing, that gets soft and crumbles after time. Usually makes them hard to start, but I suppose it depends on which hose goes out first. There is one from the tank to the fuel pump/carb, and on most of them there is an additional line from the crankcase to the carb. There will also be a tank vent line, just circles around in the carb shroud and is left open. Tricky to replace as they pass thru the wall of the tank and the vent line goes thru an oversized hole and from the inside of the tank is a rubber flapper and molded plastic nipple that presses into the fuel line to expand it and seize it in the hole in the wall of the tank. The main fuel line pass thru a tight fit hole and the flop filter goes on the end of it in the tank. Charles |

It could also be that you have a dead plug when you started it and then when you reved it,it killed the plug. Or you are getting saw oil in the gas. | [Log in to Reply][No Email] |

you have the right idea tossing the saw but didn't toss it far enuf, being near a cliff helps if your arms are tired from trying to start the puppy I fought one too and it won, tiny gas lines real pain walked out of the store 3 times emptyhanded but finally bit the bullet and bot a Shihl now I cut wood instead of screwing around with the saw | [Log in to Reply][No Email] |

My Poulan 2800 starts on the third pull or so even after sitting for months. The secret is synthetic 2 stroke oil. Standard cheap two stroke oil causes the gas to go bad in very short order, just a few weeks. I've been using AMSoil two stroke synthetic oil for several years now and everyone I give some to swears by it. When my 2800 became difficult to near impossible to start and keep running a few months ago, I knew something was really wrong, thats when I discovered the fuel line problem. At least it a common line the saw repair places stock rolls of. I do sell AMSoil but never have to push the stuff, I just give them a quart (of the two stroke oil) and tell them to pay me if they like it, everyone I've done that to comes back in short order bragging about how the motor hasn't started that easy in years. Outboards, blowers, saws, weedeaters, whatever. Charles |

All of the newer quality 2 cycle oil have a stabilizer in it. I use and sell Redmax oil, it also sits for a long time in my trimmer, or chain saw, never varnishes up, has not rotted the fuel lines, does not smoke. I also do not pay the high price for synthetic oil. | [Log in to Reply][No Email] |

Now you got yourself a white and orange poulan, huh? :>) If you don't want the same thing with yer Stihl, better stay away from alchohal fuel, that is what eats the little rubber lines up and ths Stihl fuel lines are special and can cost from $5.00 to $14.00 the one for my old 015 cost $9.95 for a fuel line, was not impressed. | [Log in to Reply][No Email] |
